FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Some of the questions I'm most often asked — whether you're considering a first session, working through the practical details, or still deciding if this is the right fit for you.
Individual counselling
What happens during the first conversation?
Prior to commencing formal therapy, we will hold a complimentary 20-minute introductory conversation. The primary purpose of this brief session is to determine whether we are a good fit for working together. During this time, you will have the opportunity to briefly outline what brings you to counselling and what you hope to achieve. I will explain my therapeutic approach, practicalities such as fees and scheduling, and how we might work together. There is no obligation to commit to ongoing therapy during or after this call. If we decide to proceed, we will schedule your first full assessment session. If we feel a different style of support would better suit your needs, I will happily signpost you to alternative resources or professionals where possible.
How long is a session, and how often do they happen?
Sessions are 60 minutes, weekly or as often as suits you.
Are sessions online or face-to-face?
Both — you can choose face-to-face sessions in the London area, or online sessions from wherever you are in the UK or the rest of Europe.
Where are face-to-face sessions held?
In the London area. Full address, directions, and any parking or public transport information are shared once your first session is booked.
What does counselling cost?
£100 per 60-minute session face-to-face and online. The introductory call is free (20 minutes), and a small number of concessionary places are available — ask when you get in touch. See the full fees breakdown.
What areas can you help with?
I currently work with trauma & PTSD, anxiety & panic, behavioural problems, emotional difficulties, depression & bipolar, personality disorders, OCD, relationship issues, and addictions. If you're not sure whether counselling is the right fit for what you're facing, feel free to ask when you get in touch.
How confidential is counselling?
Everything discussed in sessions is confidential, in line with the BACP Ethical Framework. The only exceptions are if I believe there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, if disclosure is required by law, or in the event of a legal requirement such as a court order. I also discuss my work, in an anonymised way, with my clinical supervisor — this is standard practice for all BACP-registered counsellors and helps ensure the quality of the support I provide.
How do I book?
Get in touch via the individual enquiry form to arrange a free 20-minute introductory call. I aim to respond to all enquiries within 1–2 working days.
What happens if counselling isn't the right fit for me?
If it becomes clear that a different kind of support would suit you better — during the introductory call or at any point after — I'll discuss this with you openly and, where possible, signpost you to other services or practitioners who may be a better fit. There's no obligation to continue if it doesn't feel right.
What happens if I need urgent help?
If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 999 or go to A&E. For urgent, non-life-threatening mental health support, call 111 and select the mental health option. Samaritans: 116 123 (free, 24/7). Text 'SHOUT' to 85258. See the full urgent help section.
